Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS)
Accessible Pedestrian Signals are devices that communicate information about pedestrian signal timing in a non-visual format such as audible tones and/or speech messages and vibrating surfaces.
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) incorporates APS into all new traffic signal installations and traffic signal reconstruction projects and has established a program to add APS to existing traffic signals throughout the City.
